Alter Destiny
By: R. A. Cvetich
Sitting in my bedroom on a cold winter night
Got all of my old pictures spread across the floor
I came across a photograph of you and I
Man, I don’t smile like that anymore
And there’s a picture of my best friend
The one that your heart now belongs to
And sometimes I wonder what she has that I don’t have
Then I remember – you
CHORUS
And it’s funny how things change
I remember planning to run away
To Vegas to get married
And to think, it’s kind of scary
That one little word: goodbye
Changed the course of our lives
Was I supposed to set you free
Or did I alter destiny?
I’m lying on my bed and the rain is coming down
Reading through piles of old notes and letters
You wrote, “Baby, we’re gonna last forever”
We didn’t know any better
Now I see you slip a note into her hand
And I know exactly what it will say
Then you look into her eyes so tenderly
I remember when you used to look at me that way
Repeat CHORUS
Bridge
Was it fate for us to be apart?
Were you destined to still have my heart
Even though I don’t have yours?
And were we never meant to be?
Or did I alter destiny
To the point that you don’t love me anymore?
And I say this change is funny even though
It’s the saddest thing I’ve ever known
Repeat CHORUS
