Stained-Glass Heart
By: R. A. Cvetich
My stained-glass heart is broken
What once was beautiful is lost
Shards of words left unspoken
Once formed the bridge I have yet to cross
Oh, that picture shone so clear
When the pieces stayed together
Until it cracked and disappeared
And my view has changed forever
The colors began to fade
And without warning shattered
What once was cannot be remade
From the fragments that helplessly scattered
The glass came crashing down
Reflecting my tear-stained soul
Piercing the world around
Never again to be whole
The jagged pieces lay
Wounded and bleeding tears
Restrained from the light of day
Drenched in lonely fears
Which battle to hold them back
From rejoining once more
The strength is what they lack
What they once possessed before
Concealed behind the dark mask
Completeness this heart pretends
And so the question is asked
Will it ever shine again?
